REPURPOSED MATERIALS

Our bed & mattress covers are made using a selection of repurposed fabrics from our suppliers.

The diagram below illustrates where we intercept the current wasteful linear system, collecting the leftover textiles from our contributors at the raw material (orphan, deadstock fabric rolls) and manufacturing stages (offcuts, short ends, remnants).

Once we have recaptured these resources, we take them to our design HQ & repurpose the fabrics into luxury pet products.

Of course, from there our own manufacturing process creates some surplus (offcuts, remnants, short ends) so we ensure these are redistributed to our collaborating partners so they too don’t end up in landfill. By feeding the fabric back into the textiles loop, we are creating a more circular economy.

RECYCLED MATERIALS

Our CHILLOUT mattress coves are made from previously existing denim items, when they have reached the end of their usable life.

The diagram below illustrates where our recycled notions, fillings, packaging & mattress covers intercept the current wasteful linear system.

We make our recycled mattress covers, by collecting post-consumer (used) denim garments from our contributors at the end of their usable lives.

Once we have recaptured these resources, we take them to our design HQ to sort, & physically re-work them into fabric sheets. We then use this recycled fabric to create a portion of our mattress covers.

FILLINGS

Latex

We collect organic latex offcuts from bedding manufacturers around NZ & use them in our pet beds. Latex is a natural rubber derived from the rubber tree. The latex we source is made with pure milk from organic rubber plantations. Latex is produced from a carefully managed and renewable organic resource.

Recycled PES Stuffing

Our toys & outdoor beds are stuffed with 100% Recycled Polyester fibre, made from discarded plastic drink bottles.

The great thing about recycled polyester is that it takes significantly less energy to produce than virgin polyester, and it ensures no new fossil fuels are extracted to make it.

Wool

We use knopped wool made from surplus carded wool collected from manufacturers and spinners within New Zealand. Knops are little balls of cross-bred wool fibre created when tiny tufts of wool are whirled in a machine with centrifugal force and blown into partially formed ball shapes.

Wool comes from the replenishing fleece of sheep, making it a natural, renewable resource. Given that sheep grow a new fleece of wool each year, it is renewable & humanely collected.

Zips

We use quality, heavy duty, recycled YKK NATULON® zippers, that are Bluesign® approved.

NATULON® zippers are a resource-conserving, recycling-oriented product made from discarded plastic drink bottles, old fibre and other polyester remnants.

Fabric Labels

Our happy-scrappie brand labels are made in an Italian Fabric Mill, where they recover & recycle the yarn waste from their textiles production to create new fabric labels.
